Event narrative

Heavy rain with amounts of 5 to 7 inches caused flash flooding. The rain which fell from the 16th to the 18th was due to the remnants of hurricane Ivan. 500 homes and 30 businesses were damaged. 50 water rescues were reported. The hardest hit areas were Tunkhannock, Eaton Township, Nicholson, Exeter, Meshoppen, and Laceyville. In Nicholson, the Shadow Brook did major damage. The county declared a state of emergency and closed all roads to the public early Saturday morning. In addition the Susquehanna River had major flooding.
