Large swells, from storms in the South Pacific, produced heavy surf along the Central and Southern California coasts. Average surf heights of 7 to 9 feet with local sets to 12 feet were reported. In Rancho Palos Verdes, a man was swept away by the heavy surf while fishing on the rocks.
