Event narrative
A peak gust of 84 mph was recorded at San Augustin Pass. Other peak gusts in the zone included 70 mph at the White Sands Missile Range Main Post, 66 mph 1 miles southeast of the White Sands Main Post, and 61 mph 6 miles east-southeast of the Main Post.
Wider weather episode
A deep surface low was located over eastern Colorado ahead of an upper trough centered over the Great Basin. In addition, a 90-100 knot upper level jet was moving into southern New Mexico which helped to bring wind gusts up to 84 mph to the region.
