Event narrative

Oregon DOT reported debris and mud washed over highway 242 in eastern Lane County, resulting in its closure. Heavy rain over the burn area from the 2017 Separation Fire was likely the cause.

An upper-level trough moved across the area from the southwest, generating strong thunderstorms which produced locally heavy rainfall, lightning, hail, and gusty winds.
