Event narrative

Heavy rain from a thunderstorm west of Nevada State Highway 359 drained into Corey Canyon and across Nevada State Highway 359. Mineral County Emergency Managers/Sheriffs reported a debris flow that extended from Nevada State Highway 359 at Corey Canyon to Hawthorne. This debris flow caused Nevada State Highway 359 to be closed for several hours. No damage/cleanup estimates were available.

Wider weather episode

Daytime heating and ample moisture along the periphery of a ridge caused scattered convection over western Nevada and the eastern Sierra July 19th through the 25th. Several storms produced heavy rainfall which led to flash flooding and debris flows. Hail was also reported with some storms.
