Event narrative

A 62 year-old woman was killed when her van skidded off I-155 into the median and rolled over several times. The woman was driving northbound on I-155 about 3 miles south of IL-136 when she lost control of her vehicle due to icy conditions. She was ejected from her van and pronounced dead at the scene.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure approaching from the Southern Plains created areas of freezing drizzle during the morning of January 22nd. In addition, gusty southeasterly winds ahead of the developing system led to drifting of an existing snow cover. As a result, scattered slick spots caused numerous traffic accidents...including one that killed a woman on I-155 in Logan County.
