Event narrative
Hikers sheltering in a cave overnight attempted to cross two branches of flooding Cave Cove Creek via a log during heavy rain to try to return to their vehicle. One female was swept away and drowned.

An unseasonably humid regime featured moisture intrusion from the Gulf of Mexico ahead of an approaching cold front, and a southwesterly flow aloft. Localized heavy rainfall mainly south of the I-40 corridor produced flooding.
