Event narrative

The SNOTEL at Atigun Pass on the Dalton Highway reported an increase of snow on the ground of 7 inches in 18 hrs. It is estimated that higher amounts of snow fell east of the highway. Strong north winds gusting to 38 mph at Atigun Pass and 28 mph at Anaktuvuk Pass along with low visibility in blowing snow accompanied the snowfall.

Wider weather episode

A cold front moving west across the Brooks Range resulted in heavy snow and low visibility in blowing snow.
