What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado touched down in a wooded area west of Highway 27 and crossed Hwy 27 near Bob Cooley Road where numerous pine trees were snapped or uprooted. Additional pine trees were snapped along the southern end of Mitchell Loop. Max estimated wind was 105 mph.

The wider storm

A strong area of low pressure developed on the boundary by the 21st causing coastal flooding before the front finally pushed deeper into the gulf.

Began near Singer (30.7028, -93.4165).
