Hurricane Gustav caused tropical storm force winds in Beauregard Parish, resulting in scattered trees and power lines downed.
Between 10 and 12 inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours, resulting in widespread flooding across southern Beauregard Parish. The heaviest hit area was near Ragley, where water entered a school and several homes.
With already saturated grounds, an additional five to ten inches of rain resulted in widespread flooding of the Merryville area, flooding nearly every home and business in the downtown area.

Rain finally moved across Beauregard Parish early in the month helping to contain the Tiger Island Wildfire. The fire burned 31,290 acres and numerous structures during August with no significant growth or burned structures in September.
