Event narrative

Accumulating snowfall on roadways led to slick conditions resulting in numerous slide offs and some accidents. One accident occurred 2 South of Lindsborg which unfortunately resulted in a fatality and two injuries. Visibility was reduced significantly. Snowfall reports ranged from 2 inches in McPherson to 6 inches in Lindsborg and 9 inches in Canton.

Wider weather episode

An intense upper low led to narrow bands (one county wide) of heavy snow across portions of central Kansas on February 25th, 2020. This heavy snow band had reports of 8 to 12 inches with additional snowfall amounts occurring further south as the band shifts to the southeast with 5 to 8 inches. Interstate 70 was closed between Salina and Ellsworth Kansas, for a brief period of time due to numerous accidents blocking the interstate. Numerous slide offs have also occurred along Interstate 135 south of Salina. Kansas High Patrol reported from 0400-1200 CST, there were calls of 42 slide offs, 7 property only collisions and 1 fatal collision.
