What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado touchdown occurred just north of the George and

Jackson county line and continued just over 1 mile towards the northeast.

Numerous pine trees were snapped near the trunk. The approximate maximum

path width was 50 yards.

The wider storm

A Mesoscale Convective Vortex moved across the area during the morning and early afternoon. Enhanced vertical wind shear with this system combined with a moist and unstable atmosphere led to the development of thunderstorms with embedded mesocyclones, some of which produced tornadoes.
