Event narrative

Winds gust reports included: North Providence 51 mph at 558 AM EDT (amateur radio) and Providence 47 mph at 736 AM EDT (HADS). However, at T.F. Green Airport (KPVD) just south of Providence the ASOS recorded a gust to 56 mph at 723 AM EDT. In Cranston at 630 AM EDT, a tree and wires were down on Main Street.

Wider weather episode

A cold front produced a fine line of low-topped convection that moved across the region from west to east during the morning. A southerly low level jet of 80 knots at 850 mb, combined with fully leafed trees, helped cause damaging winds.
