Event narrative

The northeast portion of the zone remained in Extreme(D3) drought through the month of December. The remainder of the zone started in Severe(D2) drought but transitioned to Extreme(D3) drought early in the month.

Wider weather episode

Besides one precipitation event in early December, little moisture fell during the month. All climate locations reported below normal precipitation which kept all areas in severe to exceptional drought.
