Lightning struck a house in the 700 block of Miami Street and started a fire. An 85 year old man in the house was unable to get out and died of smoke inhalation.

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms moved across parts of northeast Illinois during the early morning of July 28th producing localized wind damage.
