Will storm history

Lightning struck a house in the 700 block of Miami Street and started a fire. An 85 year old man in the house was unable to get out and died of smoke inhalation.

A man was struck by lightning in Whalon Lake Forest Preserve and died a few days later.

A 52 year old woman drown inside a car that was found submerged in a flooded ditch.

A 32 year old male walked into a fitness center in Crete on the afternoon of June 23rd and was disoriented and appeared to have been working outside in the heat. He suffered a heat storke and was taken to the hospital, where he died two days later.

A man who was snow blowing walked into the right lane of Coal City Road, just west of Novy Road in dense fog. He was struck and killed by a car that could not stop before hitting him.

Just before 6 PM CST, lightning struck a home on Caraway Ct in Lockport setting it on fire. No one was injured in the fire, but the home was declared uninhabitable while repairs were made.

A large tree and power lines were blown down and blocking the road near Exchange St and Perry St in Crete. Additional tree and power line damage was reported near Selleck and Cass Streets.

Roofing material was pulled off of a strip mall near IL-53 and Romeo Rd in Romeoville. A gas station canopy was also damaged and tilting nearby. Tree damage in the area extended from Romeoville High School north to Normantown Rd.

Multiple reports were received on social media for a funnel cloud in southern Will County. The most likely location based on the various reports appears to be over the Midewin Tallgrass Prairie in Wilmington.

Several large branches were broken in Lockport. The large trunk of a rotted tree also fell onto a house.

Whole trees were snapped in the vicinity of the Lockport High School baseball fields.

Lightning struck a home along Hemingway Ct in Plainfield knocking out multiple electrical systems. Time was estimated based on radar data.

Multiple reports of flooded roadways came out of Mokena and Frankfort. Three separate private weather stations in the area recorded between 3.71 and 3.89 inches of rain between roughly 12:30 PM and 3 PM CST, featuring a couple of periods with rainfall rates of 2 inches per hour.
