Event narrative

A mudslide coming down Whitney Creek on the northwest slope of Mount Shasta impacted Highway 97. This occurred at 0507 PDT on 09/10/21. 0.4 to 0.7 inches of rain fell in the area over four hours. This slide was likely due to the rainfall, combined with glacial melt from the Whitney Glacier. The slide closed Highway 97 for a short time, and one semitrailer truck was stuck in the mud. No injuries or fatalities occurred.
