Strong thunderstorm winds knocked down a large tree onto Highway 11.

Hot and humid conditions helped create an unstable environment during the afternoon hours. Storms triggered along a passing disturbance as it moved through Northeastern Pennsylvania with many storms becoming severe. The main hazard was damaging wind gusts that knocked down trees and utility wires. A couple of storms had lightning strikes that resulted in damage. The most notable was a church that caught on fire after the steeple was struck by lightning. The fire caused extensive damage to the church's structure.
