Several reports of 4 to 5 inches of snow were received, including near New Florence and Ligonier.

Wider weather episode

A deepening trough ejected from the Midwest towards the Mid-Atlantic from January 6th into the morning of January 7th. Precipitation spread into the area during the afternoon and evening of the 6th with moist advection and jet ascent ahead of the trough. Thermal profiles supported an all-snow scenario. The rapid transition of the trough axis east allowed for the quick intrusion of drier air and increasing subsidence, which resulted in a swift west-to-east decline in precipitation early on the 7th.

Snowfall totals were generally in the 1 to 4 inch range for much of western Pennsylvania, although some reports of 4 to 8 inches were received from the ridges to the south and east of Pittsburgh.
