Vermilion storm history

A 10-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound I-74 just west of Danville at approximately 6:40am CST. One man was killed in the crash, while several other people were injured. Dense fog had reduced the visibility to less than one quarter of a mile at the time of the accident.

Extensive tree damage occurred across Rossville due to wind gusts of 80-90mph. Many homes and cars were damaged due to falling trees and tree branches. Numerous power poles and power lines were blown down and a few street lights were broken.

A few 2-inch diameter tree limbs were blown down along North 130 East Road south of the Salt Fork.

Corn was blown down in a northeast to southwest direction just north of Catlin-Homer Road and west of North 130 East Road.

Widespread wind damage occurred on the south side of Westville due to a downburst. The tree damage included snapped trunks, large branches broken, and trees uprooted. In addition, minor roof damage occurred to 3 homes. The wind damage extended eastward for approximately 2 miles.

A stop sign was snapped off its post at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 49 in Rankin. Power lines were blown down resulting in a power outage in town as well.

A semi-truck was overturned on I-74 near Oakwood. No injuries were reported.

Light snow accumulations resulted in slippery roads, and at least 13 vehicle accidents were reported across Vermilion County. Most of the accidents were minor, but injuries were reported with at least two of the accidents. An exact number of injuries was not provided.
