Continued well below normal rainfall caused severe drought intensity to begin on December 19, 2023 for all but far northern portions of Bartholomew County. Severe drought was downgraded to moderate drought on January 16, 2024.

Criteria was reached from maximum heat index values exceeding 110 degrees on the afternoon of August 24th. Heat index values were estimated from reported maximum temperatures at the Columbus COOP station and dewpoint data from the nearby GEZ ASOS.
