Leflore storm history

A car slid off a bridge on County Road 507 and into a tree due to light ice accumulation on the bridge. There was one fatality.

A 43-year old female died (indirect) after her car hydroplaned shortly before midnight and was submerged in a flooded ditch. The car was headed southbound on Highway 49 approximately one mile north of the Holmes County line.

Around one half inch of mainly sleet fell across the county, but light snow and freezing rain also fell. Area roads were covered by sleet. Two fatalities occurred on the morning of January 20th when a car slid off the road due to residual ice on the road from the winter storm.

Several trees were blown down around town. One large tree blew down onto a van at an intersection. The front of the van was crushed, and the driver was killed.

Numerous trees and powerlines were blown down across Leflore County.

Severe storms produced damaging winds in a line from Greenwood to just south of Carrollton in Carroll County. Trees and power poles were snapped and broken. Two trees fell onto houses.

Several warehouses sustained roof damage as well as some trees were uprooted in the Sidon area. A nearby agriculture weather site to the northwest of Sidon recorded a 62 mph wind gust from the west-northwest.

Multiple utility poles were snapped in Greenwood.

Several trees were blown down in Morgan City.

Several power poles were snapped along Highway 82 in Browning. In addition, two homes sustained damage from falling trees.

Light to occasionally moderate snow fell across the county. Accumulations of up to seven tenths of an inch fell near Greenwood.

Numerous large tree limbs were blown down around the city of Greenwood, including several that fell on and damaged homes.

An extensive swath of wind damage occurred across the Schlater area. Numerous trees were downed, 10 light poles snapped, several homes damaged by falling trees along with several irrigation pivots that were rolled.

Sleet began accumulating in the morning hours, with accumulations of over 1.0 inches in northern parts of the county by the evening. Especially across southern portions of the county, freezing rain accumulated at least 0.25 inches of ice on trees and other elevated surfaces.

Heavy sleet fell across the county. Accumulations up to three and a half inches occurred. Roads were icy.
