Barranquitas storm history

River Botijas overflowed its banks along road 720, km. 0.3 in Barrio Palo Hincado, in the border between the Barranquitas and Orocovis municipalities. Flash flooding killed two people who drowned when their truck Ford F150 car was swept away by river Botijas flood waters.

Flooding was reported at the intersection of Camino Vecinal and PR-156 near the Plaza San Cristbal Shopping Center and Licenciado Bar in Barranquitas. The intersection was impassable due to high water. No structural damage or injuries were reported.

A 911 reporter informed us that there was some flooding in Barrio Helechal in road PR-162 near El Deportivo Bar. The road was not impassable.

Broadcast media reported through social media that rapid floodwaters inundated a community after Quebrada Grande Creek overflowed its banks in Barrio Quebrada Grande, Sector Los Figueroa. They stated that nearly 20 families were affected.

The Municipal Office of Emergency Management (OMME) in Barranquitas reported a landslide that affected PR-720 near kilometer 2.9 interior, in Barrio Palo Hincado, Sector Las Pias. The landslide caused a significant debris flow, rendering the road impassable.

A creek, a tributary of Rio Canabon, overflowed over PR-770, in Sector La Torre, Barrio Canabon. The road was impassable.

Strong winds knocked down a tree. This fallen tree was blocking PR-772 at km 0.1 on Los Alicea Way in Barrio Quebradillas, Barranquitas.

Pea-sized hail was reported near Barrio Caabn in Barranquitas, close to the Orocovis county line, by both the media and the public through social media. At the time of the report, the TJUA NEXRAD radar indicated a weak hail signature over the area.

A low-water crossing in PR-772 km 6.1 in Barrio Canabon, Barranquitas was impassable due to flooding from a nearby creek.

The 911 Call Center reported flash flooding at Meliton Perelez St. near the Barranquitas River. There was 1 person trapped inside a flooded residence.

Several reports from the public and emergency managers indicated hail, as well as frequent lightning, and strong winds.

Emergency managers reported strong winds due to a thunderstorms. The winds moved several tents, and a tree fell affecting power lines in the area. A person was minorly injured because of the winds.
