A 22 year old male swimming in the Gulf of Mexico on South Padre Island, near the 300 block of Padre Boulevard drowned in a rip current. His body was recovered on October 11 farther down the beach.
High surf and robust northeasterly swells led to the drowning of a young adult male near South Padre Island. The victim ventured into the surf after an evening show near Isla Blanca Park on the south end of the Island.
A 40 year old male swimming between the first and second sandbars of a mile north of Beach Access 5 on South Padre Island drowned in a rip current. Two other individuals were rescued, both of whom were brought to shore conscious and treated at the scene.
