Calhoun storm history

Numerous downed trees and power lines were observed in and around Grantsville. These roads included County Route 4 near Route 16, North Calhoun Highway, and Broomstick Road. Nearly one thousand homes in this area were without power for a period of time as a result.

More homes outside of Grantsville observed power outages due to nearby downed trees and power line damage.

Millstone Creek overflowed into yards along South Calhoun Highway, partially submerging one vehicle and reaching the raised foundations of several homes.

High water was observed across a section of Slab Fork Road in White Pine.

Trees were knocked down onto roads north of Grantsville, including Yellow Creek Road, Leading Creek Road, and onto the west bound lane of Little Kanawha Highway.

Trees and power lines down affecting 1,528 customers between Grantsville and Mt. Zion with a tree reported down on East Little Kanawha Highway near Henrietta.

Trees and power lines were blown down along West Little Kanawha Highway between Creston and Grantsville.

The Little Kanawha River remained out of its banks through the evening of August 28th and continued to spill onto sections of Route 16 between Orma and Chloe.

Between the towns of Orma and Nicut, water washed debris across Nicut Road. Crooked Run Road was also washed out near the intersection of Nicut Road.

The Grantsville area observed multiple instances of downed trees and power lines. Over 4,000 households were without power for an extended period of time.

Near the town of Frozen, Frozen Run Road and Upper Big Run Road were impassable due to high water. A mudslide also occurred near Nicut Road.

High water was observed along Arnoldsburg Road between Pink Road and the Roane County line.

Route 16 was closed in multiple locations across southern Calhoun County due to flooding.

Multiple trees were blown down in the Spruce Run area.

Multiple trees were downed in the community of Millstone.

In Arnoldsburg, several trees were blown down.
