What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

This tornado touched down near Norris Homewood Road and moved northeast across mainly rural portions of southeast Scott County. Most tree damage consisted of downed tree limbs, but a few trees were snapped or uprooted along the path. The most intense damage was centered near the intersection of Annie Moore Road and MS Highway 501 where the roofs of a few homes were partially damaged. The tornado dissipated shortly after it crossed Interstate 20 halfway between Forest and Lake. The maximum estimated wind speed was 105 mph.

The wider storm

Severe thunderstorms moved across Mississippi during the evening and overnight hours of the 13th into the 14th, with flash flooding across areas of the Delta and several tornadoes. Severe storm coverage diminished during the night, but storms became severe again during the afternoon of the 14th as a cold front interacted with a warm and unstable air mass in the region. Tornadoes on the 14th were generally along and south of the Interstate 20 corridor with severe storms continuing into the evening.

Began near Norris (32.2762, -89.4567).
