Event narrative

A NWS damage survey confirmed a concentrated area of straight line winds with estimated peak winds of 80 mph occurred in and west of Forrest. These strong winds blew off a portion of the roof of a junior high school gymnasium. Numerous trees and utility poles were blown down. At least one shed was damaged.

Wider weather episode

Severe thunderstorms moved across portions of central Illinois during the late morning of December 28th producing localized wind damage. Additional severe thunderstorms moved across parts of central Illinois during the afternoon producing additional wind damage and six tornadoes. Heavy rain also caused localized flooding.
