Event narrative

A tornado with estimated peak winds of 85 mph touched down just southwest of the intersection of E 300 North Road and N 450 E Road. The tornado crossed the intersection and peeled a west-facing section of metal roof eastward off an agricultural office building. While no condensation funnel was evident, eyewitnesses reported visible rotation in the clouds passing over the facility and debris from the impacted building getting lofted and swirled around in the air before being deposited in a field east of the facility where the tornado ended. This was the only damage reported from this tornado.

Wider weather episode

Severe thunderstorms moved across portions of central Illinois during the late morning of December 28th producing localized wind damage. Additional severe thunderstorms moved across parts of central Illinois during the afternoon producing additional wind damage and six tornadoes. Heavy rain also caused localized flooding.
