Raft River Region storm history

Wind gusts 50 to 60 mph were widespread with a peak gust of 60 mph at the Yale Mesonet site on interstate 84.

Widespread 60 to 75 mph wind gusts occurred with a peak of 74 mph measured at the Yale ITD mesonet site on interstate 84. A 70 mph gust was measured near Idahome.

Fifty plus mph winds were widespread in the Raft River region with a peak gust of 69 mph at Holbrook.

Widespread 50 to 70 mph wind gusts occurred in the Raft River Region with a peak gust of 71 mph at Moburg Canyon.

High wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph were widespread in the Raft River Region with the peak of 59 mph near Idahome. Black Pine also recorded 58 mph.

Storm total of 3 inches reported via CoCoRaHS station near Heglar. Wind gusts also ranged from 50 to 55 mph as reported via ITD mesonet.

A storm total of 6 to 15 inches fell across the South Hills.

Several wind gusts over 50 mph occurred with 63 mph measured at Black Pine.

Several 50 to 60 mph wind gusts recorded with a peak of 57 mph gust recorded 9 miles west of Black Pine in Cassia County.

Widespread 50 to 60 mph wind gusts recorded in Cassia County. Multiple 60 mph plus gusts recorded near Idahome and a peak of 61 mph from ITD Yale site and 4 miles north northwest of Black Pine.

A 58 mph wind gust was measured at Pilot Gold mesonet site north of Black Pine.

Moburg Canyon recorded 58 mph and Pilot gold recorded 68 mph.

A 59 mph wind gust was measured at Moburg Canyon.

Heavy and wet snow combined with strong winds to create travel issues on the 1st and 2nd. Holbrook recorded 6 inches of snow. 10 miles southeast of Rockland measured 7 inches of snow. Interstate 84 closed from Interstate 86 to the Utah border due to the conditions and also Idaho …

Interstate 84 was closed from the intersection of interstate 86 to the Juniper Rest Area due to blowing and drifting snow and 40 to 60 mph wind gusts. It was closed overnight on the 14th into the 15th and through the morning.

Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph combined with light snow caused extensive blowing and drifting snow.

Wind gusts of 45 to 70 mph were widespread with heavy snow and snow squalls were reported at: Yale, Idahome, Moburg Canyon, and Sweetzer Summit with visibility below 1/4 of a mile.

A multi vehicle accident occurred on interstate 84 north of North Pine closing the eastbound lane with snow and winds thought to be a factor in the accidents. Winds were gusting to over 50 mph at times.

Wind gusts were widespread 50 to 70 mph on the 19th as a cold front moved through the Raft River Region. A peak of 67 mph was measured near Idahome.

Heavy snow fell with 11 inches measured 11 miles south/southeast of Rockland. The Rockland School District 382 closed on the 4th due to the heavy snow and strong winds causing blowing and drifting snow as well.

Several 60 to 70 mph wind gusts were measured in the Idahome area with a peak of 68 mph at 1100 AM MDT.

Wind gusts of 55 to 70 mph were widespread with a peak of 66 mph 9 miles west of Black Pine. 63 mph gusts were measured at Idahome, Pilot Gold and Moburg Canyon. Snow also fell with 3 inches measured at Rockland.

Minus 28 degrees was recorded at Idahome on the 30th. Wind chills reached 40 below or colder. Due to the extreme cold Rockland School District 382 was closed on the 30th and Oneida School District 351 started 2 hours late.

Nine inches of snow fell 11 miles southeast of Rockland and 8 inches fell in Roy with 40 to 60 mph wind gusts widespread.

Widespread 60 to 70 mph gusts occurred on the 21st with 7 miles north northwest of Idahome measuring 66 mph at 7 AM MST.

A lightning caused wildfire burned around 280 acres 8 miles south of Malta. It began on July 12th and was controlled on July 14th. No structures were threatened or damaged.

Sixty to 70 mph wind gusts were common following the passage of a cold front. Wind gusts on the morning of the 29th were 70 mph at Yale, 68 mph at Idahome, 65 mph at Pilot Gold.

Snow and strong winds caused whiteout conditions on interstate 84 with a multiple vehicle accident influenced by the weather occurring just south of the Yale Road Exit at around 5:30 MDT. RWIS station ITD 12 near the incident reported 0.24 mile visibility at 415 PM and wind gusts…

Widespread 50 to 65 mph wind gusts were present following the passage of a strong cold front. The peak was 65 mph at Moburg Canyon with 57 mph at Pilot Gold and 54 mph at Yale ITD site.

Extremely cold wind chill readings occurred overnight on the 22nd into the 23rd. Moburg Canyon recorded -30 at 839 AM and Juniper Interchange recorded -25 at 800 AM on the 23rd.

Interstate 84 was closed from 10 miles east of Heyburn to the Utah border due to snow and blowing and drifting snow reducing visibility on the 31st.

Several 50 to 55 mph wind gusts were measured along interstate 84 between Burley and the Utah border.

A 59 mph wind gust was recorded at Moburg Canyon.

Widespread 60 to 75 mph gusts occurred along interstate 84 southeast of Burley. The highest recorded was 75 mph at the Idaho Transportation Department Yale site.

Interstate 84 was closed at the interstate 86 interchange south to exit 263 at Juniper on the 27th. Winds were gusting up to 60 mph causing drifting over the road and whiteout conditions.

Forty to 50 mph sustained winds along with peak gusts of 73 mph 9 miles west of Black Pine, and 69 mph at the Yale ITD site brought some damage to the Raft River region. An Irrigation pivot was blown over along E Heglar Canyon Rd near Heglar.

The Black Pine Fire was a lightning induced fire on August 18th that burned 1,000 acres 6 miles north of the Utah border near interstate 84 mile marker 270. It burned grass, brush and juniper and spread very rapidly. It was finally contained on August 21st.

A multi day storm brought heavy snow and wind to the Raft River region. By the afternoon of the 13th, 5 miles northwest of Holbrook, 8 inches of snow had already been recorded. More snow likely fell in the data sparse region.

A combination of wind and snow created hazardous roadways and caused the Rockland School District number 382 to close schools on the 7th.

Oneida County School District 351 was closed January 7th due to high winds causing blowing snow and dangerous travel.

A fire which was an escaped agricultural burn grew to 13,500 acres 4 miles southeast of Malta. It began September 22nd and was controlled don September 27th. It burned grass, brush and timber but caused no structural damage.

The North Heglar fire was induced by lightning on July 16th and grew to 2,300 acres 24 miles southeast of the interstate 84/86 interchange. IT was grass, brush and timber with some structures threatened. North Heglar Road and Mill Flat Campground were closed to the public.
