Annie Mae Anderson, 81, of Silver Spring, MD., was found dead during the morning of February 5th in a wooded area behind her home. Anderson, who suffered from dementia, apparently wandered away from her home without her coast. Cause of death was exposure to the cold weather.

Lightning struck a 3-story apartment building in the 13100 block of Millhaven Place. The lightning strike started a severe fire that started in the attic and caused the building to collapse, displacing a dozen families and causing an estimated 2.5 million dollars in damage.

The stream gage on Sligo Creek at Takoma Park rose to flood stage, which is at 5.5 feet, rapidly in less than an hour. The gage then crested at 7.52 feet shortly thereafter. This was a little over a 6 foot rise in just over an hour.
