Northwest Providence storm history

Winds generally gusted 45-50 mph. In Scituate a tree was down blocking the road. A 63 year old Massachusetts man was killed by a falling tree branch while on a hike in Burrilville on the Nipmuc Trail.

A car began skidding sideways while on a curve in the road and was struck by a loaded flatbed tow truck. The truck driver tried to avoid the accident, but because of the icy roads was unable to move quickly. The driver of the car was killed.

In Woonsocket a CWOP station reported a gust to 60 mph at 12:45 AM EDT.

Generally 5 to 10 inches of snow fell, with more in western Rhode Island and less in eastern Rhode Island. Some notable accumulations include 10.5 inches in Scituate, 10.3 inches in Foster, and 9.7 inches in Smithfield.

Generally 7 to 11 inches of snow fell. Some accumulations included 11 inches in Burrillville, 11 inches in Glocester, and 10.5 inches in Harrisville.

Snowfall in northwest Providence County generally ranged from 5.5 to 7.0 inches, with the highest amounts in the higher terrain. Some specific amounts included: 7.0 inches in Foster; 6.3 inches in Glocester; 6.0 inches in Burrillville; and 5.5 inches in Smithfield.

Winds generally were gusting to 45 to 55 mph. In Foster at 530 PM EST, a tree was down on wires, causing a utility pole to break on Pine Tree Lane and Winsor Road.

In Burrillville, a pine tree was snapped in half and took down wires on North Hill Road. Winds generally were gusting to 45 to 50 mph. At 1130 AM, a CWOP station in Cumberland recorded a gust to 45 mph.
