One man drowned in southern Vernon County when he attempted to drive his pickup across a flooded road. The pickup and cattle trailer he was pulling got stuck in the flood waters with the water eventually filling the passenger compartment of the truck.
One person was killed in a one care accident when the driver lost control on a snow and ice covered road and the vehicle flipped over in a ditch and then hit a tree. Volunteer and cooperative observers reported 1 and 3 inches of snow across the county.
A 93 year old lady passed away due to hypothermia from exposure to the cold after wandering away from a Viroqua care facility. The automated weather observing equipment at the Viroqua airport reported temperatures in the teens with an overnight low on the 7th of 12 degrees.
One person died from heat related causes but additional details were not available from county officials. The Viroqua automated weather observing system recorded maximum apparent temperatures of 100 to 103 each day but conditions may have been warmer in surrounding areas.
