What the National Weather Service wrote
This tornado began to the west of Hoodtown Road and tracked northeast to New Zion and Bear Creek Road intersection. Numerous trees were snapped and uprooted on both sides of Hoodtown Road. As the tornado crossed Jack Road, several more trees were downed. From this point, the tornado weakened and dissipated by the intersection of New Zion and Bear Creek Roads. Additionally, there was quite a bit of straight line wind damage to trees south of the tornado track, especially along Jack Road and then again along a swath of Dentville Road. Much of the tree damage along Dentville Road was at an area that was exposed to the south be a large field which helped limit friction and enhance the damage to trees. Maximum estimated winds 95 MPH.
The wider storm
During the daytime hours of April 18th, a developing storm system helped generate a large line of thunderstorms which then moved across the region. From this, a regional outbreak of tornadoes along with widespread wind damage occurred. This line became efficient at producing tornadoes as a meso-scale vortex developed. The combination of multiple environmental features, set the stage for 43 tornadoes to occur over the forecast area. This ranks as 4th most for a single event across the forecast area. In addition to the tornadoes, widespread wind damage occurred as well.
Began near Willing (31.9864, -90.6119).
