What the National Weather Service wrote
The tornado developed along John Hill Road where it snapped the trunks of softwood trees. It continued to push eastward to Jess Dean Drive, snapping large softwood tree limbs along the way. The tornado moved across Old Highway 471 and to across a wooded area where it was a bit hard to see any damage give lack of roadways to travel upon. However, damage in the form of snapped hardwood trees and the Goshen Springs exit sign being blown down along Highway 25 suggested the tornado continued its eastward track. It moved across additional wooded areas towards Stump Ridge Road, and along Stump Ridge Road additional snapped and uprooted softwood tree damage occurred before it finally lifted. Maximum estimated winds 90 MPH.
The wider storm
During the daytime hours of April 18th, a developing storm system helped generate a large line of thunderstorms which then moved across the region. From this, a regional outbreak of tornadoes along with widespread wind damage occurred. This line became efficient at producing tornadoes as a meso-scale vortex developed. The combination of multiple environmental features, set the stage for 43 tornadoes to occur over the forecast area. This ranks as 4th most for a single event across the forecast area. In addition to the tornadoes, widespread wind damage occurred as well.
Began near Goshen Spgs (32.4542, -89.9442).
