St. Mary storm history

Widespread trees and power lines were downed. Roof damage, some significant, was reported across the parish. Wind gust estimates across the parish were in the 50 to 80 mph range.

The emergency management director of Saint Mary Parish reported hail of 1.5 inch in diameter.

Broadcast media and local fire departments observed numerous streets flooded in Franklin. Some flooded with over 2 feet of water.

The tide at Cypremort Point fell below -1 foot MLLW during the early morning of the 23rd and reached a low of -2 feet. The tide also fell below -1 foot MLLW during the next tide cycle and finally rose above during the afternoon on the 24th.

The tide level at Eugene Island fell below -1 foot MLLW for multiple hours. The tide fell to -1.41 feet below MLLW at the lowest.

North winds behind a strong cold front pushed water levels below -1 foot MLLW for multiple hours at Cypremort Point and hitting a low of -1.29 MLLW.

Morgan City Police Department reported a billboard pole snapped, a plaza sign downed, awning damage, and metal siding partially removed in the the town.

Tropical storm force gusts occurred across the east half of the parish. A sustained wind of 39 mph with a gust to 48 mph was recorded at the mouth of the Atchafalaya.

Lightning struck a cedar tree exploding the tree. Fragments of wood damaged a couple of nearby homes by puncturing siding, busting windows, and destroying an air conditioner unit.

The mayor of Morgan City reported major street flooding around the city which resulted in closed roads for a period.

Several utility poles were downed onto Railroad Avenue between Pecos and Aycock Streets in Morgan City.

The Saint Mary Parish Sheriff's Department reported numerous road flooded around the Bayou Vista area.

Photos were posted to social media of flooding around Franklin including on Cayce Street.

Strong north winds pushed the water level in Vermilion Bay below -1 foot MLLW for several hours. The tide fell to -2 feet at Cypremort Point and -1.33 feet at Amerada Pass.

The tide levels at Cypermort Point and Amerada Pass fell below -1 foot MLLW for several hours behind a cold front. The levels reached -1.84 feet and -1.78 feet respectively.

A light dusting of snow and sleet over a thin glaze of ice occurred during the 16th. Area travel was interrupted and area schools canceled classes for a couple days. Accumulation was around one tenth of an inch.

Strong north winds behind a pair of cold fronts kept tides blown out for multiple tide cycles. The tide at Amerada Pass fell below -1 foot MLLW for 6 consecutive cycles and reached a minimum of -1.56 feet below MLLW.
