Lander storm history

All lanes have been closed on NV-722 from MM 41.51 (intersection of NV-722 with US-50 near Austin), to MM 13. Heavy Rain has caused standing water and flooding in the roadway. Road remains closed as of 13:00 LT 9/4/23.

Storms training over the same area led to areal flooding over SR-305 in Lander County. The road was temporarily closed between MM 60 to MM 40.

Across Diamond Valley, warm temperatures, rainfall and snowmelt caused flooding and road closures at 11th Street, between Frontier Street and Gold Street. Frontier Street, from 9th to 11th Street was also closed due to flooding.

NV Roads website reported adverse driving conditions due to a mudslide caused by heavy rain in the area. The slide occurred between mile markers 21 and 24 on NV-722, SW of the city of Austin, in Lander County. Both sides of the highway were affected. The roadway was not closed.

Downburst winds occurred at station (BMRNV) 0.6 SW Battle Mountain, Elevation 4513 feet. A downed tree onto a house, in Battle Mountain was also reported on social media with a photo.

Approximately two inches of water covered State Route 806 north of Battle Mountain. Traffic was limited on the roadway and alternative routes were taken.

Lander County Sheriff's office and members of the public (through Facebook) reported a cold air funnel one mile north of Argenta. Numerous photos confirm cold air funnel did not touch the ground.

The public spotted a cold core funnel cloud near Lewis Canyon in northern Lander County.

Thunderstorm winds partially blew off a roof on a mobile home in Battle Mountain. Damages are estimated.

The Lander county sheriff's office reported flash flooding on state route 722 near Elkhorn Canyon Road. Damages are estimated.

Red Butte RAWS recorded a wind gust of 62 mph.

Reports and pictures from social media showed flash flooding in and around Austin. Time estimated based off radar. Damages are estimated.

Roughly ten power poles were snapped along Lee Renfro Road due to strong thunderstorm winds. Time is estimated based off radar and received reports.

The Lander county Sheriff Department reported flooding on State Route 305 between mile post 82 and mile post 108. Damages are estimated.

A piece of metal roof was torn off a shed and damage to a satellite receiver was also noted. The metal shed doors were also blown in. Estimated winds of 60 to 70 mph from a microburst. NWS storm survey conducted. Damages estimated.

Newspaper reports multiple roads covered with water or washed out in and around Battle Mountain. Time estimated based off radar and conversation with paper. Property damage is estimated.

Law enforcement reported that flash flooding washed out sections of Greystone mine road. Property damage is estimated.

Heavy rain from thunderstorms resulted in a flash flood near Kingston with 4 to 6 inches of water reported flowing across state highway 376 at milepost 27. No reports of damages were received so monetary value is an estimate.

A wind gust of 67 MPH was reported by the Beacon Light RAWS site about 10 miles southeast of Battle Mountain.

Lander county sheriff reported water running over state highway 305 between Austin and Battle Mountain.

Thunderstorm winds at Battle Mountain High School blew several porta-potties about 175 feet, torn the roof off the baseball dugout, blew over large metal trailer, and partially uprooted a large tree.

The Argenta RAWS site reported a 59 mph wind gust.

Red Butte Raws reported a wind gust to 60 mph.

The Argenta RAWS station reported a thunderstorm wind gust to 60 mph.
