Snowy Range storm history

A few SNOTEL sites in the Snowy Range showed 20 to 26 inches of snow December 27th and December 28th. Highest snowfall of 25.5 inches was reported at Medicine Bow Peak.

Brooklyn Lake SNOTEL site reported 7 inches of total snow. Cinnabar Park and Medicine Bow Peak both reported around 6 inches of snow as well.

SNOTEL site Cinnabar, located 7 miles west southwest of Centennial reported the peak snow of 14.4 inches. SNOTEL sites Brooklyn Lake, 7 miles west northwest of Centennial reported 12.6 inches. SNOTEL site Sand Lake, 10 miles south southwest of Arlington reported 14 inches.

SNOTEL site Medicine Bow, located 14 miles west northwest of Centennial reported a total of 17 inches. Reached criteria of 12 inches around the 16th at 4 AM MST. The Sand Lake SNOTEL also reported 13 inches of storm total snow during this time.

Multiple SNOTEL sites suggest a total of 2 to 4 feet of snow fell in the Snowy Range in the 3-day period from 12/1 to 12/4. A maximum estimated total of 49.5 inches was recorded at Medicine Bow (MBSW4), 14 miles WNW of Centennial at an elevation of 10,512 feet.

Multiple SNOTEL observations in the Snowy Range recorded estimated snowfall totals of 12+ inches. A maximum total of 19.2 inches was observed at the Sand Lake SNOTEL (10 miles SSW of Arlington) at an elevation of 10,098 feet.

Multiple SNOTEL sites in the Snowy Range reported 48-hour liquid precipitation totals of 0.3 to 0.6 inch. Snow-to-Liquid ratios were estimated at approximately 10 to 1. Maximum snowfall totals were estimated near 6 inches over the highest peaks.

An estimated 1 to 2 feet of snow fell over the Snowy Range per various SNOTEL observations. The highest amount of 21.6 inches was recorded at Brooklyn Lake (BKLW4) at an elevation of 10,240 feet.

Multiple SNOTELs near 10000 feet elevation estimated 8 to 10 inches of snow accumulation, including the Med Bow SNOTEL.

Numerous SNOTELs estimated between 40 and 94 inches of snowfall over the multiday period. Med Bow SNOTEL (elevation 10510 feet) estimated 94 inches of snowfall over the 84 hour period with 4.7 inches of snow water equivalent and 20:1 snow to liquid ratios.
