Big and Little Wood River Region storm history

An avalanche occurred in Blaine County in the Smiley Creek area between Ketchum and Stanley. Four snowmobliers were buried in a meadow area when the avalanche occurred around 2 pm MST. Three of the snowmobliers survived with one fatality occurring.

An avalanche near the bottom of Fire Trail on Seattle Ridge on Bald Mountain killed a back country skier. The avalanche occurred at approximately 2:30 pm on January 22nd. The man was pronounced dead at 3:31 pm at the Wood River Medical Center due to suffocation.

A motorist was hit with an avalanche on Highway 75 on February 19th. It hit just south of Chaerry Creek and buried her car. It was 40 feet wide and 6 feet deep. The car was freed in an hour and a half.

The Dietrich wildfire began on the 13th and burned near the town of Dietrich covering 145 acres. One power pole had to be replaced and 432 customers lost electricity from the fire on the 13th of June. Other than power poles, no other structures were damaged.
