An automated system in Freeland on Whidbey Island reported about 2.5 hours of high wind, both sustained and gust. A 9 year old girl was killed, and her father injured, when the top part of a tree broke and fell on their SUV.
Fort Ebey State Park was forced to close for a period of time on December 30 due to numerous downed trees, per WA State Parks. The ferry service from 8am-1030am from Port Townsend and Coupeville were cancelled due to high wind and rough seas.
Four to 12 inches of snow fell. The heavy snow downed trees and power lines and caused travel problems.
Trees fell on homes, power lines and over roads. Whidbey Island was the hardest hit area as the entire island lost power and their outages lasted the longest. Ferries and schools were canceled.
