Sierra Madre Range storm history

Two snowmobilers west of Battle Pass triggered and were caught in a 2-8 feet deep avalanche the day after heavy snow fell in the area. Strong winds around 50 mph were reported nearby. One fatality was reported.

SNOTEL observation sites across the Sierra Madre Range reported total snow accumulations between 18 to 27 inches. Highest accumulation was at Old Battle SNOTEL which reported 26.7 inches.

Highest total snowfall was 57.8 inches at Old Battle SNOTEL near Encampment. All SNOTELS in the zone reported between 15 inches and 58 inches of snow.
